On Palm Sunday, Christians celebrate the triumphal entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, an event that took place the week before His death and resurrection.
The biblical account of Palm Sunday can be found in all four gospels: Matthew 21:1-11; Mark 11:1-11; Luke 19:28-44; and John 12:12-19. They recall the story of Jesus traveling into Jerusalem knowing that this journey would end in His death on the cross as a ransom for our sins. As He made His humble entrance riding on a donkey, people greeted Him with great excitement, waving palm branches and laying them on His path.
Matthew 21:9 NKJV
Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying:
“Hosanna to the Son of David!
‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’
Hosanna in the highest!”
